Selena Marie Gomez was born in Grand Prairie, Texas on July 22, 1992, the daughter of Ricardo Joel Gomez and former stage actress Amanda Dawn "Mandy" Cornett. Gomez was named after Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla-Perez. Her father was of Mexican descent while his mother, who was adopted, had some Italian ancestry.
Gomez started her acting career at the age of seven when playing Gianna at Barney & Friends. She said she learned "everything" about how to act right now on the show. In the 7th series Barney & Friends, Selena Gomez appeared in several episodes. Therefore, the episode featuring Gomez is not aired until he is in the 5th grade. This is mildly controversial when Barney's age is in the 5th or 1st grade. She then gets a small role in Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over and Walker TV movie, Texas Ranger: Experiment With Fire. In 2004, Gomez was discovered by the Disney Channel at a national scouting event. Gomez appeared as a guest star in The Life Suite of Zack & Cody and also appeared as a guest star - later turned into a recurring role - in Hannah Montana from season two to three. In early 2007, Gomez was cast in the Disney Channel Wizards of Waverly Place series as one of the three main characters, Alex Russo.
In 2008, Gomez appeared in the movie Another Cinderella Story, a sequel to the DVD version of the 2004 movie starring Hilary Duff, in this film she competed acting with Drew Seeley. Gomez also got a small voiceover role for the character of Daughters 96 in Horton Hears a Who! Which was released in March of that year. In April, Lacey Rose of Forbes named Gomez the fifth in the list of "The Eight Little Sexiest Stars"; And Rose illustrates that Gomez is "a multitalented teenager". In June 2009, Gomez appeared in a Disney Channel television show titled Princess Protection Program with her best friend Demi Lovato.
